Dear All,

After two and a half years of working on Somali issues, I have now moved on to a new position in the Foreign Office. The best part of the job has been the privilege of working with the Somali diaspora. Against the backdrop of so many bad news stories emerging from the region, the heartfelt commitment and practical support provided by so many British Somalis for their homeland has been a source of hope and inspiration. I have greatly valued the knowledge and wisdom you have shared with me so openly.

I am particularly proud to have to have worked on this issue at a time when the UK has made strenuous efforts to support the Somali people in their recovery through two major international conferences and a major step up in political attention and financial commitment. My sincere wish for the Somali people in Somaliland, Puntland and South Central Somalia, is for the full restoration of peace, stability and economic development.

While I am sad to be leaving a job I have loved, I am pleased to be able to leave you in the hands of my very capable successor Claudia Garland.
